Raising the Curtain

Actor and former Dancing with the Stars contestant Mario Lopez and NBC 7/39’s Kimberly King hosted the Balboa Theatre reopening gala, a 1920s-theme fund-raiser featuring an original dance-and-music production orchestrated by San Diego Chamber Orchestra conductor Jung Ho Pak. Among featured guests was San Diego native Steve Gouveia, star of the national tour of Jersey Boys (and member of the original, Tony Award–winning Broadway cast). Mayor Jerry Sanders and County Supervisor Greg Cox briefly addressed the packed house. Event proceeds will help create an endowment to enable local nonprofit performing arts groups to use the theater.
